Bioremediation of sites contaminated by oil derived substances

Different methods of reclamation are used to dispose of contamination, e.g.: ground replacement, free floating product removal, biotechnological methods including implementation of bacteria strains decomposing hydrocarbons and plants able to absorb, stabilize or metabolize contamination.

Nowadays methods using bacteria strains decomposing hydrocarbons seem to be the most appropriate due to ecological and economical reasons. This technology consists in introducing adequate bacteria strains into contaminated environment, adding mineral and organic substances essential for the microorganisms existence and then fast bacteria reproduction in ground, deposit or water. Due to the cooperation of introduced bacteria strains oil derived substances are decomposed into harmless products, i.e. carbon dioxide and water.

The firm DEKONTA Polska Sp. z o.o. has in its offer ground and water environment reclamation by the mentioned method using bacteria strains. The bioremediation has two approaches: "EX-SITU" - outside the contaminated zone and "IN-SITU" - within the contaminated zone. The biodegradation can be also applied to water purification. The whole process is aided by mechanical method - the floating product removal.

Technologies applied by our firm use biologicals attested by National Institute of Hygiene. The biologicals consist of bacteria commonly existing in soils, fresh and sea water. They are unlike to cause human or animal diseases. In reclamation processes we use the biologicals: BIOTECH-RL (hygienic certificate HK/M/0023/01/2006) and DEKONTAM-2-DL (hygienic certificate HK/M/0817/01/2004).
